Details of different kind of apple operating system like iPhone OS, apple mobile operating system, MAC computer OS, apple TV OS and apple smartwatch OS.
First we should understand what is file
system and what is Operating System / OS. If we have 500 pages book, and there is large information stored on that book. To find proper information on
particular topic, we first look at index page. Which provide location of
information stored on a book. On dictionary information are stored alphabetical
from a to z. So we can find word easily.
Similarly on computer there is
file system, directory and drive to locate stored data. Data stored in bit and
byte format. Different kinds of apple file system are APFS- Apple Platform File System, HFS Hierarchical File System, HFS Plus etc.
Operating system is software which acts as interpreter between human and
computer hardware software. For example
hardware work on machine language and it is coded language program, while we do not
know it. When we give any command or instruction, operating system convert
it to hardware language. So that electronics hardware can understand. Similarly
output of any hardware or software will be converted to human language, so we can
understand. There are 16bit, 32 bit operating system and most of the latest
operating system are 64 bit, whether it is Microsoft, UNIX, Linux or Apple.
Apple operating systems are mainly divided into four parts. 1) iOS 2)Mac OS 3)TV OS 4)watch OS. Os stand for operating system.
IOS iPhone Operating system :
IOS is apple mobile device
operating system, it is called iDevice operating system or iPhone operating system. IOS operating system works with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It is also
used with TV and Smartwatch. but mainly iOS means for mobile smartphone operating
system. It started with iPhone OS 1 and latest release is iOS 14. All iPhone
which are release after iPhone 5s, iPhone SE can be upgraded to iOS 12
including latest iPhone XS. Ipad mini,iPad pro and iPad air are compatible with
ios 12. Only 6 generation iPod touch can support iOS 12.
Mac OS:
Mac is stand for Macintosh and Mac OS is Macintosh operating system. It is developed by apple. Initially it
was started with mac OS X, then OS x and now it is called mac OS. These are
operating system mainly for apple desktop computer, server, workstation,
notebook and tablets. Last released mac OS was High sierra and end of 2018
apple will release mac OS Mojave, which is high end graphic operating system. Mac-book pro, mac-book air which are released after 2012 can support Mojave. IMac
pro, mac pro which released after 2013 can support Mojave.
All other
apple operating system like iOS, TV OS or watch OS are compact version of mac OS. Mac OS is broad release of apple operating system.
TV Operating System :
TV os is the apple TV
operating system, it is named TVOS with the release of 4th generation
apple TV. Initially apple use mac OS X and ios for apple TV. But from 4th
generation TV onward, apple has started developing specific operating system for
apple TV. It is named as TVOS or digital media player operating system. Though TV OS is a compact form of mac os or ios. But it has many features of ios and
mac os. You can use iTunes store, YouTube, Netflix and other internet content
provider on apple TV. Apple TV has separate hard-disk for data storage. You can store iTunes purchased movies, episode
on that. With iTunes remote software, you can remotely control TV from apple
watch, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac PC or MacBook Pro. Latest released TV OS is TV
os 12x beta version.
Here I like to add
that Macintosh TV is different from apple TV. Macintosh TV is combination of
apple computer and television. In Macintosh TV, you have CRT Cathode Ray Tube screen like we have
in older TV. It is also used as computer monitor.
Watch Operating System :
Watch OS is
operating system for apple touch screen smartwatches. Apple watches has many
special feature compare to other watches. It has many fitness enable functions.
It is like google wear OS for smartwatches. You can pair apple watch with
apple TV, you can remotely control TV from apple watch. You can transfer iPhone data to watch. You can listen music on watch. You can connect any
iDevice or apple gadgets to watch via WiFi. Latest release is 5.0 beta 9 watch OS. Last stable release of watch OS is 4.3.2 which is based on iOS 11.4.
